My name is Peter Westin. Many years ago my wife Carol and I started thinking about having a shop where people wanted to come and find unique, high-quality, and practical products that just happen to come from or be inspired by Scandinavia. Why Scandinavia? Well...

I'm the first one in my family born in America (Ft. Riley, KS) with all of my relatives still in Sweden and my birthday is on the Norwegian national holiday (17:e Mai). My parents emigrated from Sweden in the 1950's and then my father served in the US Army for 30 years. As an Army-brat (yes, that's what we proudly call ourselves) I had the good fortune to: grow up in Europe, have friends from Norway and Denmark, as well as spend a lot of time with friends and family in Sweden (mainly) and Norway. In southern Sweden I've lived on farms and in small towns (Ängelholm in Skåne and Gottskär/Kungsbaka in Halland), visited larger cities like Uppsala and Stockholm (central Sweden), and spent summers in the north on the island of Alnö just outside of Sundsvall. Coming from a family of professors, teachers, and avid travelers, and a having natural sense of curiosity has led me to seek out the unique and unusual. After college (Trinity University in San Antonio, TX) I too served in the Army followed by several years in the business world. During our many military or corporate relocations we could never find a retail establishment that not only carried the usual assortment of Scandinavian goods (food and chocolates naturally), but also unusual, special, yet practical items. You know...cool stuff

Another component equally as important to me is sharing knowledge or information about Scandinavian people, customs, history, and their influence or impact on our current world. My continuing quest is for new and informative reference resources linked to Scandinavia and its people to be made available on or through our website. It is our goal that everyone who visits us will at some point be inspired, amazed, or compelled to exclaim out loud "That's so cool!"
